News from the Principal

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Who All Will Step up to the Plate?

Give this a thought: If a baseball player never stepped-up to the home plate, that player would never experience the great feeling of hitting a home run for the home crowd. We need a few more home run hitters at RMAE to join the many others who come to bat for your children every day. Are you ready to step-up to the plate for RMAE? More on that later in this message.

First, I want to share with you a decision that was made last night by your Board of Directors – a decision to bring a new person to the plate and begin to hit more home runs for RMAE. Ann Hudson, who is also a four-year resident of Evergreen, was offered the Principalship at RMAE beginning July 1 and she has accepted. Ann was a hit with the Search Committee and the BoD and will be a hitter for RMAE for years to come. The Board will have a Special Meeting on May 25 to officially approve her contract of employment. You are welcome to come at that time and meet Ann. This two-week period is required by state statute to enable the public to speak to this selection before the hiring process is complete.

If you want to know more about Mrs. Hudson’s background, you can view her Letter of Interest and Resume on the Principals Page of our website at A formal introduction of her may not happen until August. However, she will be learning more about RMAE once she completes her assignment in Aurora.

Secondly, how about some of you also stepping up to the plate and volunteering for some very important roles. Here is where we need your time and help:

  • We want to hold a Board election.There are three openings to be seated in June. One person has stepped forward and RMAE needs at least two more. There will be an election before the school year ends. This will be a great way to get to know your child’s principal and serve your school. If interested please email me, as soon as possible, to review with you the steps necessary to run. Thanks to Russ Arnold and Shawnna Jermano for stepping-up to serve on the Election Committee with me.
  • Do you want to pay full-price for your 6th, 7th, or 8th grader to participate in the class trips next year? If not, then we MUST have a parent volunteer/representative for each grade level and a treasurer to manage and reconcile the funds collected to support these trips. Lastly, I want to express my deepest appreciation for the professionalism and commitment of the thirteen members of the Search Committee to the search process for a Principal which began three months ago and culminated with Ann being presented to the BoD as a finalist. I am pleased with how the process worked and the outcome with Ann being offered the position by the BoD. If you see any of the members, please ask them about the process, the decision, and then pass along your thanks for their service on the committee. They stepped-up to the plate for RMAE and have hit a home run. The members were: Kelli Anderson, Dyann Bartlett, Amy Broxterman, Kathy Butcher, Ian Dunbar, Tiffany Fontaine, Mary Gordon, Kathy Grubb, Emily Johnson, Chris Lindsay, Rachel Saylor, Candy Taber, and Carrie Wassemiller.

RMAE Happenings

2017/18 Early Registration – The deadline has been extended to next week, Monday, May 15th – It is mandatory that parents/guardians register their child(ren) during this Early Registration Period for the upcoming school year. In the event of wait-lists, all students (new and returning) who have not returned the Parent Contract by the last day of the Early Registration period, could forfeit their spot on the next year’s roster. Classes and staffing will be determined by enrollment.

Click on this Registration Link to access the required forms and information for next year. Please complete the first four items and return them to the office by Monday, May 15th. It is preferred that you return them in your child’s Friday folder or drop them off personally. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

K-5 Field Day – TOMORROW! Please help make this a successful day by volunteering at one of the stations. If you are able to stay all day, please sign up for BOTH a morning and afternoon session. If you are only able to help during one session I’m thankful for that too!

AM session – 9:00-11:00 (10 minute rotations)
PM session – 1:00-2:45 (10 minute rotations)
Students can wear free dress that day but are asked to wear a shirt in their grade level color. Don’t forget sunscreen and water bottles.

K – Gray
1 – Red
2 – Blue
3 – Green
4 – Purple
5 – Orange

Middle School Field Day – The Amazing Race – Monday, May 15th This relay-style field day will begin at 9 am and take about 2 hours. Students will be divided into 6 teams, with a mix of students from grades 6-8. There will be activities (about 40) that range from wheelbarrow races to solving math problems! The first team to complete the race, wins! Please SIGN UP HERE to volunteer.

Evergreen Fire/Rescue Wildfire Community Preparedness Month and Mitigation Photo Contest – evergreenFireRescue_logoEvergreen Fire/Rescue are looking for maximum participation from the members of the community for their mitigation photo contest. This is a great way to get out and help reduce wildfire danger in the area.

Jefferson County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program – As a part of their Summer Reading program, they are offering a reading contest open to all Jeffco schools. One school in each of the five categories (preschool, elementary, middle, high and special/choice) with the highest percentage of students who finish the Summer Reading program will win $800. There are also many prizes available for students – look for the flier in your child’s Friday folder. Students may register on the JCPL website.

8th Grade REHAB Bags – NFFRD_2017_cropFor the Community Service Day, our 8th grade class put together REHAB bags for the Alpine Rescue Team and the North Fork Fire and Rescue (NFFRD) in Buffalo Creek. The bags contain many personal items (sunscreen, gum, snacks, deodorant, chapstick, hand wipes, foot powder and tissues) for the volunteers to carry with them when responding. They also visited Alpine Rescue to learn more about what they do for our community and during their visit, they detailed the inside of their trucks. Check out the 8th grade thank you letter they included with the REHAB bags and the photo of the NFFRD department holding their REHAB bags. They were very grateful!

Summer Food Bank – For many families, as another school year comes to an end, the worry about how to keep their kids fed begins anew. Especially when it seems like they could eat constantly!

Evergreen Christian Outreach (EChO) provides a Summer Lunch program that combines fresh items (milk, fruit, vegetables), shelf stable items (canned or packaged goods), and frozen foods (meats) each week to cover lunches. All items are geared to allow the kids to prepare and feed themselves. The program runs from May 29th until August 18th. There is no means test to receive this food. Pick up is required at the EChO office at 27640 Hwy 74 Evergreen on Mondays from 10-6, TWTh from 10-4. To sign up, simply call EChO at 303-670-1796. Ask for Nancy if you have any questions.

Last Day of School Picnic – Weather permitting, you all are invited to bring a picnic lunch and stay for an hour or two after early release on the last day of school (May 25).  Some time to set the kids free on the playground, talk about summer plans and relax. Hope to see you all there for a low key celebration to start the summer!


News from the PTO

  • Monthly Meet Up: Murphy’s Mountain Grill
    Friday, May 19 (1:00-2:00 p.m.) — Reconnect with other parents as well as meet some new people. It is also a perfect opportunity for new families to get connected with others in the school. Come grab a late lunch or snack. Come for 5 minutes or 55 minutes — we’ll be there to welcome you. If you have any questions, email Valerie Brown at
  • Grocery Cards — Keep using your cards! By simply spending $500 each month in groceries/gas over the course of the year each family will earn $300 for RMAE and help FULFILL their 60 hour volunteer requirement. RMAE gets 5% when you load them. Contact Carrie Wassemiller to get a card:
  • We need you! — We are seeking 4-5 new members of our board to contribute fresh ideas and energy to what has already been started. No special training necessary to join us, with the exception of the treasurer. Please send an email to our vice president, Bre Boyle at
  • Uniform Swap/Lost and Found — We are collecting for our Uniform Swap. Drop any gently used uniforms you would like to donate in the office. And as the year comes to a close, we will be clearing out the lost and found. Please check for any missing items, as anything left after school is out will be donated.
  • Middle School Pizza Fundraiser – This is a critical fundraiser for the middle school, and we need 6th grade families to volunteer for pizza chair and co chair positions for next year.
