Thank you to the parents who came to watch today. The kids did a really good job with their presentations. First the table winners

Table 1 – Marie Curie – Jennifer

Table 2 – Tie – Wright Brothers – Kelly and Ben Franklin – Troy

Table 3 – Amelia Earhart – Avery

Table 4 – JFK – Shane

Table 5 – Rosa Parks – Carly

Overall Winner – It’s a tie! Rosa Parks and Amelia Earhart! Congrats Carly and Avery.

Another year of Biography Survivor has come to an end. Everybody worked really hard over this long project. We agreed that the best part about today wasn’t just the making fun of each famous person (though that seemed to be their favorite part of the project), but just the fact that it’s over. : )

The team of students who worked together to plan this party did a great job. It appeared they learned a lot about doing events. I heard a couple of them say they didn’t realize how much work went into planning and putting together a dinner. They will appreciate all you do as parents a little more in the future.

Thank You!!!

The kids probably told you with great glee that there is no math or spelling homework this week. We are done. Their only homework is the reading log, which should consist of them reading their persuasive biography speeches out loud to prepare for Wednesday’s presentations.

Speaking of Wednesday…

Biography Survivor presentations, the final showdown, will begin as soon as we can convert the cafetorium into a speaking forum. If any parents are available, I would definitely accept any assistance that can be provided. We’ll need to help Jason with floors, putting up tables and setting up chairs. I hope to have our first student begin speaking by 1:15 at the latest.

Science Quizzes – We will have science quizzes over the heart and lungs tomorrow and Wednesday. Study guides were completed and sent home last Wednesday. We are doing our review game today, they will take the circulatory quiz tomorrow, then the respiratory quiz on Wednesday.

Free Dress Day and Early Dismissal- Friday is the last free dress day of the year. It’s also an early dismissal day. Students will be set loose at 12 Noon.

Aloha families,

Your children and I had a wonderful week of learning! Highlights: our field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to dissect a heart and to visit the geology exhibit. The dissection was AMAZING!!! Your children were AMAZING!!!! We collected 900, yes! 900 books for Lumberg Elementary as their “Book Heroes!” The Random Acts of Kindness foundation will be filming the students at Lumberg this Tues. as the students there receive our books. How wonderful!!!! I do hope that this act of kindness has impacted your child so that they will want to continue to help others in need. We also enjoyed learning how to be safe this Summer be participating in Safety Day.

Thank you: thank you to the families who spent time in the classroom this week including our field trip. Your time with my students is invaluable and you are SO APPRECIATED!!!

Homework the week of May 20-24: Reading Log: 4 nights + responses, Math: 13-7, 14-3, 14-6, 15-3 (4 pages due), spelling packet for The Man from the Far Side of the Moon. If your child did not turn in their Homework Folder on Friday, then the math homework can be found in the Friday Folder. MOST of your children still have to master their multiplication facts 6-12. I am doing everything that I can in the classroom to help them and at this point need your support at home. It is extremely important going into 5th grade that these facts are mastered. PLEASE help your child now so that mathematics won’t be frustrating for them next year.

Classroom library books: Please look around your house this weekend for any books with my last name of them and have your child return them ASAP. THANK YOU very much!!!

Upcoming events: Friday, May 24th: noon dismissal (teacher in-service) Saturday, May 25th: my first born son, Jordan, gets MARRIED!!!!! Wow! Monday, May 27th: no school (Memorial Day) Wednesday, May 29th: end of the year class party, noon-3pm Thursday, May 30th: last day of school

Have a blessed week!!!

1. I want to say THANK YOU for all the parent support on our field trip to Waste Management Recycling center. The kids had a blast (and learned a thing or two)!

2. Friday, May 24th Kindergarten Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast- We would like to invite those parents who volunteered their time this year to come have breakfast. It will be from 8:00 am to 9:00 am in Ms. Smit’s classroom. We will have fruit, muffins, juice and a hot breakfast dish. There will be no coffee. This is also a half day (noon dismissal)

3. We will celebrate our Golf Ball/Erase the Face party on Tuesday, May 28th. Kids may wear Pajama’s and bring a small blanket. No slippers please!

4. Graduation will be on Wednesday, May 29th at 10:00 (picnic lunch to follow). An email will be coming out shortly with details. Remember there will be a pre-graduation party in our classroom starting at 9:15. You don’t want to miss it!

Have a fun and safe weekend!

The countdown has begun! There are officially only 8 days of school left! And in case you missed the previous blast, the last day is a FULL DAY. But just like any other day, you may check out early at the office. If you wouldn’t mind communicating this to me, just so I don’t miss saying good bye and giving my little sentimental gifts! The rest I have is just general need to know for now until the end!

Next Friday, May 24 is the last HALF DAY, noon dismissal. And I believe it is free dress that day too!

Monday, May 27th- NO SCHOOL! Memorial Day holiday, enjoy!

Wednesday, May 29th is our Kindergarten Graduation! We will begin in our separate classroom with the picture slide slow and fun awards beginning at 9:15. Then we will transition to the cafetorium for our “official” ceremony starting at 10am. Immediately following the ceremony we will picnic outside together. Please bring blankets and/or lawn chairs and your picnic lunch! You may take your kiddo with you early, just check out with the office. The remainder of the day will be relaxing!

If you have any pictures you personally took of our class this year at a party or event, please email them to me or Elizabeth Fadli, who so graciously is setting up a share link for us all! Thank you for sharing!

That’s a wrap! Enjoy the weekend! I personally will be riding my bike!

Take Care,

Ms. Smit
