Director’s Newsletter April 16

Dear Parents,

Please read this important announcement from your RMAE Board of Directors:

Dear RMAE community,

I am pleased to announce that the RMAE Board of Directors has received applications from four highly-qualified applicants to serve during the 2015-2017 term.  The applicants are: Jeff Courtney, Kim Egan, Tim Lane, and returning Board member Ned Parker.  Their four letters of intent will be sent via school messenger to you.  Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these applicants.

The Board had four open positions for parent representatives.  With an equal number of applicants, an election process will not be required this year.  It is anticipated that the applicants will be presented to the Board at the May Board meeting, at which time they will be formally voted onto the Board.

Please note as well that we are still looking for one community representative.  This spot is reserved for an individual who is neither employed by RMAE, nor has a student at the school.  The ideal candidate would be a community member who is devoted to the RMAE community, and enthusiastic to help the school achieve its core values and mission.  Applications for this position will be accepted until a suitable applicant is found.  The term of appointment is one year.  If you know a suitable candidate, please encourage them to contact either Dr. Harrell or myself.

Please congratulate our new Board members on their positions, and for their ongoing dedication to the RMAE community.  On behalf of the Board, we are fortunate to serve such a wonderful community, and look forward to the fresh ideas and energy which these individuals have to contribute to our work.  Please know that we are always available to you to discuss any suggestions that you may have to improve our school community.

Best Regards,

Brad Giles, Parent Representative

Guys and Dolls – Tickets are still available for the Saturday performances this Saturday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. To purchase tickets and more information: http://rmaemiddleschoolguysanddolls.bpt.me

Community Service Day — We are all looking forward to a great Community Service Day Friday, May 1, just two weeks away! Parents please check your child’s Friday folders for permission slips as well as check emails from your class for opportunities to volunteer. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Jamie Brand at: jmeb53226@gmail.com.

Spirit Week
– Beginning Monday, April 20, students may show their school spirit by joining in the dress-up fun. Monday is PJ Day, Tuesday is Twin Day, Wednesday is Nerd Day, Thursday is Favorite Character Day, and Friday is Color Day (wear all of one color). Remember that students’ dress may be fun but school appropriate too!

Spring Fling Middle School Dance – All middle school students are invited to this special event on April 24 from 6:30-9:30p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Country Club. Tickets are $25 and include a pasta bar dinner. Ms. Johnson is collecting prepayments for the dance but tickets can also be purchased at the door the evening of the dance.

Soccer Gear Wanted – Ms. Hoban’s fifth grade class has partnered with Soccer Dreams Without Borders (please see : Soccer Dreams Without Borders – Empowering African Children Through Soccer )and are encouraging our school community to consider donating new or gently used (clean) soccer gear + equipment to support their efforts (balls, jerseys, cleats, socks, shin guards, turf shoes, water bottles, outgrown uniforms, athletic shorts, etc.) Collection bins will be located in Building 1 outside Mrs. Hoban’s classroom.

“Evergreen Bluegrass Festival” – The first of this future annual event will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2015, from noon to 8:00 p.m. at the Rodeo Grounds. After more than a year of planning the EBF Committee, working with the RMAE Foundation, is ready to bring Tom Hushen’s dream to life. The Railsplitters, Oakhurst and Ragged Union are just a few of the bands lined up to play. Visit www.evergreenbluegrassfestival.com for further information on the musical talent, vendors, tickets and sponsorships. Further questions can be directed to info@EvergreenBluegrassFestival.com.

Lost and Found — Please have your student check lost and found for their personal items. There are some very nice items there as well as some items that need to be eliminated. The lost and found has developed an odor, and we will soon need to rid the school of the offending items. While we do try to reconnect children with their items this particular batch has been a bit of a challenge!

Elementary Partial Contact days – Please mark your calendars for the upcoming partial contact days for elementary students. These partial contact days permit teachers to complete the mandatory testing that is required prior to the end of the year. Below is the schedule for specific classrooms:

Thursday, May 7 – The following classes do NOT come to school on this day: Grose, Riedlin, Hines,                           Mazurek, Bartelt, and Williams

Friday, May 8 – The following classes do NOT come to school on this day: Dorr, Schotters, Hushen,            Narans, Gordon, and Hoban.

Amazing Art Show — The RMAE art department is pleased to announce that our biggest elementary art exhibit of the year will hang in the main hallway of the Jefferson County library in Evergreen for the month of April. This collection includes over 50 students in grades K-5, and showcases 25 of the projects done this year.
