Classroom News

5/18/2020

Dear Parents,

Here we are at the last week of school!  It’s hard to believe!  This year will certainly be one we will always remember! We both feel so fortunate to have been able to teach your wonderful children this year and get to know your families.  We had an amazing group of children this year and are lucky to have gone through this challenging time with such hard-working, resilient, and compassionate students.  We truly appreciate the extra work you have done at home this semester during this unprecedented time. Thank you so much for your patience, encouragement, and kindness!   We wouldn’t have been able to do it without you!

We hope your family has a safe, healthy, and FUN summer! It is well deserved!

Dear Parents,

-Zoom Meetings: Some kids have been asking to leave prior to starting the math lesson during our whole group lessons.  We feel that it is important for them to stay through the remainder of the whole group lesson if they are signed on and able to.  We will conclude Chapter 11 next week then review the more challenging topics from this year to help them prepare for third grade math.  While we understand it is difficult for some children to remain focused at home, we are also only teaching face-to-face lessons 3 hours per week.  We appreciate your understanding and support with this.

Pictures: Please email us any pictures you have of the second graders from this year for our end-of-the-year slideshow.

Have a great weekend!  Only two and a half weeks until summer break!  Woohooo!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Grose and Mrs. Scheid

Dear Parents,

  1.  Communication/Updates

Young Writers’ Books: The Tall Tale Book due date is tomorrow.  We will be adding an optional Zoom Meeting on Thursday, April 16th for kids to read their Tall Tale stories to each other.  If necessary, we will offer a second zoom meeting the following Thursday to hear the rest of the stories.

Patriotic Program: Unfortunately, the Patriotic Program is cancelled for this year.

Google Classroom Comments: Please make sure to check comments in Google Classroom and share them with your children.

Charlotte’s Web:  We will be assigning one (short) chapter per school day (Tuesdays-Fridays) in order to finish by the end of the year.  Your child may listen to the recordings, listen to the recording while following along, read the story themselves, or have a parent/older sibling read the story to them.  Every day the Attendance Question will be related to the chapter assigned that day, so it is important that they keep up with the readings.

Zoom Meeting Expectations: We will not be able to allow your child into a Zoom meeting unless their username is their own (or a parent’s name).  Keep in mind that the specials teachers may not recognize the name if it is not their own though. Also, if children are attending the Zoom meetings:

  • their screen needs to be turned on
  • they should not be changing their background picture during the meetings
  • they should not be drawing on the screen
  • and they should not be walking around excessively during the meeting.

We will be reminding the students of our expectations tomorrow as well.
