NEW Class Website - Mr. D’s Classroom Website
Originally from: While my hometown is Wichita, KS, I spent way too many years in the Dallas, TX area before finally escaping to Colorado in 2008. Now before you complain about another Texan in Colorado, I married a CO native, I’m legit.
About: Just your typical male elementary teacher. I am married and have two kids. I came to CO to finally live somewhere where being outside in the summer was actually enjoyable. We’ll be camping in Rocky Mountain National Park this summer, and I plan on taking on my first 14er. I’ll also take in a few Rockies’ games and can’t wait to see Peyton suit up for the Broncos next fall. I will read a lot of books this fall and hopefully get in some writing as well. Come dinner time, you’ll find me in the kitchen.
Interesting Fact: My chili, Dante’s 9th Level of Hell, has won 8 of the 9 cookoffs it has been entered in, and I’m still not happy about the one that got away. I have mostly entered smaller cookoffs for school and nonprofit fundraisers. I’m looking forward to entering it into an official CASI event soon. Time to move up to the big leagues.
Favorite Quote: “If I don’t live my life right the first time, when will I have a chance to go back and try again.” My own quote based on a quote from my favorite author, Robert Fulghum…” If I don’t do it right the first time, when will I have the time to go back and do it again.”
Personal Message: I encourage my students to not accept mediocre effort. Everyone may have different abilities, but every student can give 100% effort.
Core Knowledge: Is a great curriculum, especially in Social Studies and Science. The information is vast, but extremely interesting. In 4th grade, we cover everything from the history of North Africa and China; the American Revolutionary War and the writing of the U.S. Constitution and much more.
